The BLS Providers course teaches CPR skills for helping victims of all ages, including providing ventilation with a barrier device, a bag-mask device with oxygen, and use of an automated external defibrillator (AED); and relief of foreign-body airway obstruction. Intended for licensed and non-licensed healthcare professionals.

  • This is an American Heart Association course
  • You will receive your AHA ECard Certification same day as course completion
  • The AHA states students need a copy of the current BLS Provider manual before, during, and after the course

    WHO SHOULD TAKE THE COURSE?

    Healthcare professionals who either direct or participate in the management of cardiopulmonary arrest or other cardiovascular emergencies. This includes personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care, and critical care units such as physicians, nurses, and paramedics.

    COURSE COVERS

    • Basic life support skills, including effective chest compressions, use of a bag-mask device, and use of an AED

    • Recognition and early management of respiratory and cardiac arrest

    • Recognition and early management of peri-arrest conditions such as symptomatic bradycardia

    • Airway management

    • Related pharmacology

    • Management of ACS and stroke

    • Effective communication as a member and leader of a resuscitation team

    Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS):

    • For healthcare providers who respond to emergencies in infants and children and for personnel in emergency response, emergency medicine, intensive care and critical care units

    What does this course teach?

    The goal of the PALS Course is to improve the quality of care provided to seriously ill or injured children, resulting in improved outcomes. To enter the course, students must complete the PALS Precourse Self-Assessment. Throughout the course, students are presented with 12 In-hospital pediatric patient cases and a team dynamics lesson. Upon successful completion of all the patient cases, students must pass the multiple-choice exam with a minimum score of 84%. Topics include:

    • High-quality Child CPR AED and Infant CPR
    • Recognition of patients who do and do not require immediate intervention
    • Recognition of cardiopulmonary arrest early and application of CPR within 10 seconds
    • Apply team dynamics
    • Differentiation between respiratory distress and failure
    • Early interventions for respiratory distress and failure
    • Differentiation between compensated and decompensated (hypotensive) shock
    • Early interventions for the treatment of shock
    • Differentiation between unstable and stable patients with arrhythmias
    • Clinical characteristics of instability in patients with arrhythmias
    • Post–cardiac arrest management

This course is designed to teach the skills of Adult First Aid (general principles, medical emergencies and injury emergencies), CPR/AED and relieve of choking for the adult and child. This course is a modular format that creates course flexibility. It is ideal for learners who prefer group interaction and feedback from an instructor while learning skills. 

 


Audience: Designed for employee training at companies, corporations, businesses or other entities. For employees and/or designated first responders who have a duty to respond to a first aid or cardiac emergency because of the job requirements

Course Monitoring:

Within 6 months following the successful completion of the Instructor course, the instructor candidate must be monitored teaching by Training Center Faculty (The TC may require additional monitoring, if needed). 

 

Successful Completion:

  • Complete all prerequisites
  • Attend the instructor classroom portion
  • Demonstrate BLS provider skills with expert proficiency
  • Pass the BLS provider written examination
  • Pass the BLS instructor written examination
  • Competently evaluate another student demonstrating BLS skills
  • Complete any instructor updates as per the AHA (if applicable)
  • Certification Cards:

    BLS Instructor certification is valid for a period of 2 years. To maintain BLS Instructor status, you must teach a minimum of 4 BLS classes during your 2-year certification period prior to renewal. Your BLS instructor card supersedes the BLS provider card.
